What Journey Core covers
The component groups and listed parts below summarise this level. A system name does not mean every part in that system is included.
- Engine
- Big-end and main bearings, camshaft followers, connecting rods, crankshaft, cylinder bores, cylinder head and head gasket, drive gears, gudgeon pins, oil pump, piston rings, pistons, push rods, ring gear, rocker assembly, stretched head bolts, tensioner, timing chains and gears, valve guides, valve springs and valves. Engine casings are considered when damaged by an internal component. Timing belts require the correct replacement schedule to have been followed. Burnt or pitted valves and valve seats are excluded.
- Gearboxes
- Listed manual, automatic, automated manual and dual-clutch gearbox components, including internal bearings and bushes, gears, shafts, selector forks, synchromesh hubs and rings, oil pumps, drive chains and torque converter. The list also includes gearbox actuators, hydraulic governors, internal servos and valve blocks, four-wheel-drive transfer gearboxes, gear-lever modules, starter ring gear and the flexible drive plate for an automatic transmission’s torque converter.
- Clutch
- Clutch assembly, centre-plate torque springs, clutch-cover diaphragm, clutch fork, master cylinder and slave cylinder. This does not include ordinary wear of the clutch friction plate.
- Cooling system
- Thermostat, thermostat housing and water pump.
- Drivetrain
- Constant-velocity joints, crown wheel, drive shafts, half shafts, pinion gear, planet carrier bearings, planet gears, support bearings and universal joints. Casings are considered when damaged by an internal component.
- Electrical
- Alternator and freewheels, starter motor, front wiper motor and rear wiper motor.
- Brakes
- Brake master cylinder and brake calipers that are not seized.
- Steering
- Hydraulic rack-and-pinion assembly, steering box and steering idler.
Exclusions to be aware of
- Parts outside the component lists shown for this plan.
- Faults present before the plan began, routine servicing and maintenance items.
- Ordinary wear of tyres, brake pads, brake discs and clutch friction plates.
- Seized brake calipers, burnt or pitted valves and valve seats, and flywheels damaged by worn clutch friction plates.
- Air conditioning, ABS systems, turbochargers, fuel injectors, DPFs and dual-mass flywheels are not listed for mechanical or electrical failure under this level.

How the plan works
Your individual plan schedule confirms the level, duration, start and end dates, any customer contribution and labour allowance. Warranty First assesses repair requests at its discretion under the supplied booklet and schedule. The plan is additional to your statutory consumer rights and does not replace or restrict them.
- Follow the servicing requirements in your plan and keep the service and repair invoices.
- For the petrol and diesel plans, the Cars booklet allows no more than 1,000 miles or 30 days beyond a due service, whichever comes first.
- Under that booklet, faults present before the plan began and routine servicing are excluded. An MOT failure or advisory alone does not qualify a repair.
- Use a VAT-registered service provider or repairer and maintain a valid MOT where required.
- Get Warranty First’s authorisation before repair work begins.
- You are responsible for any applicable customer contribution or shortfall beyond the agreed repair payment.
If your car develops a fault
- Report it promptly.
Contact us or Warranty First with your vehicle and plan details. Stop driving if continuing could worsen the fault or affect safety.
- Arrange the requested diagnosis.
Warranty First may ask for a garage report, service records, MOT details, proof of ownership or repair invoices.
- Wait for authorisation.
Do not start repair work until Warranty First has reviewed and agreed the request.
